In 1958 the 3rd East Anglian Regiment was formed from the Beds & Herts and Essex Regiments, and only later were the 1st (Norfolk and Suffolk, in 1959) and 2nd (Lincs and Northants, in 1960), East Anglian Regiments formed. The Royal Anglian Regiment was formed in 1964, from these three regiments, plus the Royal Leicestershire Regiment. (Andy Murkin)
