THE WINDSOR REGIMENT (ROYAL CANADIAN ARMOURED CORPS)

For the record I was with the Windsor Regiment (RCAC) Militia/Reserve. It was the Essex Regiment (Tank) until 1949. We didn't get our own badge until the KC - QC changeover (Govt saving money- did a complete redesign). Never wore a cloth stable belt. Although we were an armoured regiment (in name at least) and followed general cavalry traditions we had none of our own as we were newly raised in 1936 as armour and not a redesignated cavalry regiment. We did wear a form of stable belt on parade - black capoed (from canadian polish company- our blanco) P37 with back buckles cut off (later made in black w/o back buckles and velcro instead of hooks) and regimental buckle (locket type). I have never seen an Essex Tank parade belt so I presume we started ours in the 50s after the badge change.

With thanks to Mike Appel - Canada
