EAST MIDLANDS UNIVERSITIES OTC STABLEBELT
With thanks to Captain S C Hale, Adjutant/QM East Midlands Universities Officers Traing Corps
My stable belt from EMU OTC did not have the silver stripe, which I suppose was added later to distinguish the OTC from its [foster] parent unit as often seems to be done with ties etc. [The unit tie in 1970 had equal diagonal stripes of forest/lincoln green, murray and silver.]
I cannot remember now, but I can only surmise from the fact that I intended to join the REME sub unit and blagged a cap badge and stable belt from my brother that after the first year of infantry training cadets wore stable belts and possibly the cap badge [with white disk] of the corps sponsering their sub-unit. At that time I think that EMU OTC had sub-units for REME, CRE, R Sigs and WRAC, as well as the infantry, who wore the OTC cap badge that was basically Sherwood Foresters with different wording on the scrolls.
Happily for my military career, I only spent one year with EMU OTC, transferring to Sheffield University OTC, who did not have a REME sub-unit and I subsequently became a Sapper.
