BELT COLOURS - Thames blue and gold. This stable belt is the current issue (2008) |
The regimental belt of the 6th Hauraki Battalion Group was introduced in 1975. Its colours are Thames blue and gold, which were those worn by the Warwickshire Regiment on the hackles of their helmets. Some examples of the belt have a metal buckle featuring the Hauraki’s badge, the other type is as illustrated and has two buckle fasteners.
The Royal Warwickshires and the Haurakis formed a regimental alliance in 1925. The colours derive from a predecessor to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment (the 6th Foot) which at one time was charged with guarding the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London – the blue represents the River Thames and the gold represents the Crown Jewels.
