LANCERS GIRDLE
INFORMATION NEEDED - CAN YOU HELP?

    QUESTIONS

  • This is the statement that the great grandson sent with the pics:' I have my Great Grandfathers Stable belts. He was in the 16th Lancers from 1905-1914 when he was invalided out after being wounded on the Aisne. They are originals, and red/yellow striped. He was a sergeant on leaving.'

  • Was this Girdle worn by all Lancer Regiments or did it belong to the 16th Lancers only?

    SUGGESTIONS

  • The yellow and red girdle was introduced for all LANCERS on the 19th July 1905. With thanks to Marc Sherriff

  • I had designated the lancer girdle in my collection as 5th or 16th. However, a quick search of the internet has turned up these pages (below) with images showing the same (or similar - it looks like the officer's versions were in gold lace) girdles. Even the Australian Sydney Lancers (who adopted the uniform of the 5th) wore it. So, I think it's safe to say that all the British Lancer units wore them. With thanks to Alan Woolley
