AN INTRODUCTION TO NEW ZEALAND STABLE BELTS

The New Zealand Army wears wide webbing stable, corps, and regimental belts that, usually, are horizontally striped in two or more colours.

Stable, Corps, and regimental belts are widely used in the armies of the Commonwealth of Nations and many of the New Zealand ones are derived from those of the British Army.

Originally, stable belts were worn by cavalrymen in the working dress that they used when cleaning the stables and tending to their horses. After World War II their use spread to most of the British Army, adding a splash of colour and individuality to the drab khaki working uniforms.
