SOUTH WEST AFRICA & HOMELANDS STABLE BELTS
SOUTH WEST AFRICA & HOMELANDS STABLE BELTS

These are belts from South-West Africa and the Homelands. South-West Africa (now Namibia) was under South African control from 1915 to 1990. From about 1960 to 1990 a war was fought to gain independence from South Africa. South Africa formed the South-West African Territorial Force (SWATF) to combat the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO). SWATF was an auxiliary arm of the South African Defence Force (SADF). Despite having a different uniform, ranks structure and insignia, SWATF was still firmly integrated into the SADF. Some units of the SADF (eg. 32 Battalion and 61 Mechanised Infantry Battalion Group) were attached to SWATF so they can be considered to belong to both organizations at different times.
